The notable Sabarmati Ashram here has returned its entryways for guests, in the wake of staying shut for more than nine months due to the Covid flare-up, an ashram official said on Tuesday. With social removing and other Covid-19 conventions set up, the premises has been opened for people in general from Monday, the ashram’s chief, Atul Pandya, said.
Before the episode of Covid-19, the ashram, a previous home of Mahatma Gandhi and a memorable focus connected to India’s Independence development, used to get an enormous number of guests consistently. It is overseen by the Sabarmati Ashram Preservation and Memorial Trust.
“The ashram was shut for visitors since March 20 last year following the coronavirus outbreak. From Monday, we have once again opened the premises for visitors,” Pandya said.
“People can visit the ashram between 10am and 5pm. We have deployed our staff to guide them to maintain social distancing,” he said.
Sanitiser containers have been put at 18 better places in the premises for the guests, the authority said.
As of now, the exhibition hall and ‘Hriday Kunj’, the house inside the ashram where Mahatma Gandhi and his significant other had once lived, have been opened for general society, while the book shop, khadi shop and charkha display in the premises will stay shut, he said.
“People will touch things at these shops and the charkha gallery, which is not advisable in the present situation. Thus, we have restricted the entry of visitors at these places. We are putting in place all possible measures to stop the spread of the virus,” Pandya said.
The ashram, where the dad of the country dwelled somewhere in the range of 1917 and 1930, was a significant vacation destination, both with homegrown and unfamiliar voyagers, before the flare-up of Covid-19.
On a normal, around 2,000 individuals used to visit this authentic spot each day, Pandya stated, adding that the footfalls are currently going to be substantially less in the wake of the pandemic.
