Ahmedabad sees immense fall in number of lakes in two decades

Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority says that twenty years back, the city had 603 lakes and the number has descended definitely to 137, as the city began extending. In 2017, 65 lakes inside Ahmedabad had become trash dumps, had development, building rubble and illicit infringements, as indicated by a Cept University report arranged for AUDA.

The quantity of lakes in the city has been falling, kindness its growing limits. Mansee Bal-Bhargava, climate plan advisor and metropolitan water bodies master told the Times of India, “Any waterbody in a city without water is a land parcel for metropolitan turn of events. Water bodies in Ahmedabad are contracting at a pace of 1.57 km2 consistently because of increment in contamination, developed space and unloading of squanders, as per a report arranged by Bhaskaracharya Institute for Space Applications and Geoinformatics.
